300-Level Design and Construction Workshop

ARCSA's Design and Construction Workshop (DCW) is an Advanced Rainwater Management Specialized course open to the public or any industry professional looking to learn more about rainwater harvesting. This two-day workshop is designed to give attendees the opportunity to apply their knowledge in designing and constructing an active rainwater collection system. The course is required for anyone seeking the ARCSA Certified Professional (CP) designation. Participants will develop a design plan, site plan, calculate sizing and material to use, and then follow through with the step-by-step construction of one or more complete systems by the end of the two days.

The process will begin at the gutter and proceed through the system's parts, continuing into the storage tank and out through the pump. Participants will install screens, first flush diversions, calming inlet, floating intakes, make-up water, overflow, above and below ground tanks, backflow prevention, connections, pumps, filters and UV disinfection during this workshop. Discussion will include start-up procedures, operation and maintenance. If you attended the week-long workshop that was held in Junction, Texas in August, 2010, you have met the DCW requirement to become a Certified Professional. This DCW is worth six hours toward the 48-hour requirement.

A client manual for start-up, operation and maintenance will be developed along with warning signage, precautions and warning indicators. A minimal amount of classroom work will cover codes and regulations, the development of plans, calculations, and review of the system's components.

This workshop fulfills the requirement for non-LEED specific CEUs in the Water Management category of the LEED Credential Maintenance Program. It may also count toward the categories of: Project Site Factors; Project Systems and Energy Impacts; as well as Acquisition, Installation and Management of Project Materials.
