Rainwater Management Solutions' project is for institutional use at the Western Regional Jail in Roanoke County, Virginia. Average annual rainfall in the area is 42". Rainwater for use in irrigation and washing inmates' clothes is harvested from 25,000 sq.ft. of roof area and diverted into four 30,000 gallon fiberglass tanks. Water is taken up by Wisy 2" fine floating filters. The site has less stormwater runoff post-construction than pre-construction as farmland. This is the first LEED certified jail.
